Here are the questions we asked Dhruv Bansal to know about his interview experience.

Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.

Answer: I am a fourth-year student at Thapar Institute of Eng and Technology and have been pursuing my degree in ENC. I am from Ghaziabad and I have done my summer internship at JP Morgan Chase and have received the PPO from the same. My technical interests are in the field of web and app development.

Question 2: Was there any internal CGPA cutoff? If yes, then how much?

Answer:7

Question 3: What was the procedure of the placement that took place? (Shortlisting criteria/ coding or aptitude test/ number of interviews)

Answer:The candidates were first shortlisted based on their performance in the online test conducted on Hackerrank. Then next are the HR interviews in which there were two pre-recorded questions provided and based on the results of this particular round, students were selected for the “code for good hackathon”. During the hackathon, a mentor is provided to each team and based on your interview with the mentors and your performance in the hackathon, the final offers were made.

Question 4: Tell us about the written/online test. (Aptitude, Coding, Test Platform, etc)

Answer:The written test was conducted in a single round .It was conducted on Hackerrank. Duration of the test was 60 minutes and the level of the exam was easy where there were two questions, one of arrays and the other one of the linked list.

Question 5: Tell us about Interview Round 1 including the questions that were asked.

Answer:  There were no separate technical interviews conducted, the mentor provided to us(during hackathon) interviewed us with a combination of both technical and HR-based questions.You can have 2-3 interviews depending on the number of mentors assigned to your team.During my interaction with mentor, we have discussion on Data structures and cloud computing and some situational questions.

Question 6: Tell us about the HR interviews(if any) specifying the number of rounds and questions asked.

Answer:  The first round was conducted by providing a pair of pre-recorded questions like “where do you see yourself in five years”,” your future goals”etc. based on the results, candidates are selected for a hackathon named” code for good hackathon”. Also, a mentor is assigned during the hackathon who takes a series of interviews which is a combination of both tech and HR-based questions. The final offers are made based on the performance during the hackathon.

Question 7: What were the key factors of your selection?

Answer:I believe that my leadership skills, communication skills, teamwork and technical knowledge were the key aspects of my selection. Also, I led the front end team and mentors and judges liked our UI very much.So 2 people from the front end team were given an offer. Technical skills and soft skills played an equal role in my selection.

Question 8:According to you, what role do extracurricular activities, as well as participation in societies, play?

Answer: Being part of a society modifies a person’s thought process and develops one’s personality .It increases confidence and makes you a team player.Students must participate in extracurricular activities in the first and second year as there is no pressure of placements at that time.

Question 9:Any other advice you would like to give to your juniors?

Answer:An important piece of advice would be to start building skills in either development or competitive programming from second year according to your interest. I would like to point out that they also need to give attention to their CGPA as having a decent CGPA(9+) helps a lot during placements .Also don’t neglect core CS subjects like operating system, DBMS and computer networks as these topics are asked in almost every interview.
