His Interview was taken by UnsaidTalks Interviewer: “Akshita”

Profile offered: Digital Marketing & Analytics

Job Location: Noida

Branch and Graduation Year: ENC – 2022

Interview Difficulty Level: 7/10 (1-very easy, 10-very difficult)

Here are the questions we asked Jatin Aggarwal to know about his interview experience.

Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.

Answer: Hi! I’m Jatin Aggarwal, a Final year student of ENC (Electronics and computer) at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. From my school days, I had developed a passion for coding in C++ and never missed an opportunity to participate in competitions.
I choose ENC because you will get to learn about both the subjects, electronics and computers.
I love to connect with people from different backgrounds and thus build on my network. I love to play cricket, football and have an interest in marketing and analytics. So basically, I had hands-on everything that I could possibly explore.

Question 2: Describe Your written test experience specifying the number of rounds, details of each round, and type of test platform (online – amcat, hackerearth, etc / offline)

Answer: The test was conducted on the mettl platform. It consisted of 4-5 different sections and the total duration of the test was 1 hour.
In the 1st section, there were questions to check upon your logical reasoning and some questions to check your speed and accuracy of answering the questions (for example in a given sentence how many occurrences of a particular letter are there, find the odd one out, what figure comes next in sequence, etc.). It was basically a race against time. The duration of this section was 10 mins.
The remaining 3 sections were untimed and needed to be completed in the remaining 50 mins. Each section consisted of 10-12 questions each checking upon your mental ability, aptitude, english comprehension, analyzing and deriving information from graphs and figures in order to answer the further questions.

Question 3: Describe your all technical interviews specifying the number of rounds and details of each round (if any) (please share coding questions if possible)

Answer: There were 5 different panels of interviewers and we had 2-3 rounds of interviews, each one being an elimination round. Each round lasted for approximately 20 mins.
In my 1st round, initially, I was asked to introduce myself, then some questions were asked from my resume about my prior internship experiences and the mentioned projects. Then some rapid-fire questions were asked to check upon my speed and accuracy (basically checking my mental maths as I had mentioned that I had won in the national abacus championship). Some examples of questions asked include: factorial of 8, multiplication of 3 digit numbers, and some mathematical riddles, and each of these questions was supposed to be answered within 5-6 seconds. Then I was asked some HR questions like why should we hire you, why do you think you are suitable for this role, what is your expertise level in excel and analytics, etc.
Then in the 2nd round, again I was asked to introduce myself followed by questions related to mathematical calculations. Then some questions were fired at me which I had to answer within 8-10 seconds. These included:
1. If you have a cake and you are allowed to make 3 cuts, then what are the maximum number of pieces which you can obtain?
2. There is a cubicle room with an ant situated at one corner, so what is the shortest distance for the ant to reach the diagonally opposite corner of the opposite face of the room?
3. Some squares and cubes of random 2-3 digit numbers
4. A guesstimate question that how many tennis balls can be filled in an airplane?
Finally before concluding they asked some HR questions like why do you want to work with us, how will you rate your knowledge in excel and analytics part, etc.

Question 4: What were the key factors for your selection?

Answer: Firstly one should read the job description very carefully and accordingly mention their skills in the resume. Be thorough with the JD as to what the company is expecting from the candidates. Moreover, being calm throughout the whole process, from the online assessment to the interview, is very important. Also having a strong command over my mathematical calculations analytics part and thorough knowledge of excel helped me in acing this interview. Personally, I feel that one should have 2-3 seniors who could mentor them and especially boost their confidence during the placement season.

Question 5: What are the things students should focus on in order of priority?

Answer: Firstly you should focus on building your resume. Secondly, you should prepare the basics of OOPS, DBMS, and SQL and also should be thorough with whatever technology you have mentioned in your resume. Also for especially cracking ET Medialabs, one should focus on enhancing their logical reasoning, aptitude skills, and mathematical calculations should be on their fingertips.

Question 6: According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?

Answer: I have been a part of many societies from my 1st year itself major ones being IETE Students’ Forum(former Convener), Youth United – Patiala Chapter(former Joint Secretary), and UnsaidTalks(COO & CTO). Personally, I feel that societies play a major role in your college life. They help you build your confidence, leadership skills, technical skills, and many more. In my second year, I was part of the UIP program conducted by UnsaidTalks, which I would recommend to everyone (although not publicizing it here) because it gives you insights into what happens in the placement room. If not part of any society directly, one should definitely try to participate in some competitions to gain some experience.

Question 7: Any Other Advice you would like to give to your juniors?

Answer: The most basic advice would be to remain calm throughout the recruitment process, and trust in your strength and ability to tackle the questions easily.
For cracking technical interviews one must focus on DSA, OS, Computer Networks, and DBMS. And for cracking non-technical interviews one must devote some time to solving logical reasoning and aptitude questions (trying to solve questions with speed and accuracy).
Lastly, utilize your college life efficiently and enjoy it! Do whatever suits you – means whatever you are interested in. Never take too much stress about anything – be it academics or placements or even relationships. Nothing is more important than peace of mind. Placements can never define your career. There is so much to grab in life if you are ready for it. 🙂
