Here are the questions we asked Mayank Ranjan to know about his interview experience.

Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.

Answer: Hello, everyone. I am Mayank Ranjan. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree from NSUT in the Mechanical Engineering domain and this is my final year and I am placed at Bain Capability Network in this current placement season.

Question 2: Describe Your written test experience specifying the number of rounds, details of each round, and type of test platform (online – amcat, hackerearth, etc / offline)

Answer: The placement process was divided into four sections. The first section was CV shortlisting. The second section consisted of an aptitude test that covered questions of Mathematics and Business stats. The next two rounds were interview rounds in which firstly we were asked to solve 1 to 2 guesstimates after clearing which we were asked to perform a case study. So, this is the overall layout of placement rounds for Bain & company. In some non-tech companies group discussions are also held.

Question 3: What were the key factors for your selection?

Answer: I was active in various cultural societies, had PORs, and had done internships. This is what made me stand out and I started preparing for guestimates and case studies from my third year that gave me an extra edge and also participated in various competitions that were like a cherry on the top giving me some good achievements.

Question 4: What are the things students should focus on in order of priority?

Answer: Students should try to make their CV stand out from the rest. It mainly contains 4 sections i.e. Academics, Position of Responsibility, Work experience, Extra Curriculars; of which students should have expertise in at least 2 sections.

Question 5: According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?

Answer: Extracurriculars are important for companies to judge how versatile a candidate is. Through extracurriculars, we come to know our seniors and peers that further helps in god know what a lot of aspects. Finally, these are stress busters, so do take part in them,

Question 6: Any Other Advice you would like to give to your juniors?

Answer: CGPA does matter, so have an eye towards academics also even if you are not much inclined towards tech or core placements.
