Here are the questions we asked Shivam Sharma to know about his interview experience.

Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.

Answer: Hi! I am Shivam Sharma, currently pursuing my Bachelor of Engineering from TIET in ECE. I am a coder and also the general secretary of IETE Student’s Forum, Patiala. I am interned at Samsung Electronics and now I am placed in Tata Digital as a Digital Engineer. I have also done 4 months internship in Codify Apps Pvt. Ltd.

Question 2: Describe Your written test experience specifying the number of rounds, details of each round, and type of test platform (online – amcat, hackerearth, etc / offline)

Answer: The written test was taken on Hacker Rank. There were three coding questions, two of them were very easy, and the third one was easy but a bit tricky, mostly formula-based. There were also some MCQs which very were relatively easy.

Question 3: Describe your all technical interviews specifying the number of rounds and details of each round (if any) (please share coding questions if possible)

Answer: My Technical Interview was totally focused on my projects and skills mentioned in my resume. Mostly questions were asked based on projects itself but in great detail for about forty-five minutes. So, if you have some good projects done on your own then definitely you are going to crack it.

Question 4: Describe your all HR interviews specifying the number of rounds and details of each round

Answer: So, it was a panel of three. It was an HR+ Managerial round. First, they asked me basic questions about my strengths and weakness. Then they started asking me tricky questions which have to answer carefully. Some of the questions were like Suppose I have a pencil in my hand then tell us five factors based on which you will judge whether the pencil is good or not. So, I answered that I would check its grip, its nib for ductility/brittle, write with it for an hour to analyze how much it needs to be sharpened, sharp with the sharpener in order to check the material, building design, etc. They might also ask some sort of technical questions that might not be taught in college, for example, they asked me whether I had hands-on experience with Kanban? (Thanks to my internships), How familiar I was with other technologies like a flutter, react-native?, Then where do I see myself in five years and what do I expect from corporate life?.

Question 5: What were the key factors for your selection?

Answer: My Projects, My Internship experience, My prior interview experiences, and Self-Confidence.

Question 6: According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?

Answer: In my first year I was part of ELEMENTOS in IETE, and later became a mentor to general secretary. So these extracurricular activities are very important because even though you might have a good cgpa but still communication skills matter a lot. Let me tell you, my managerial round in Tata digital lasted for an hour where I was asked a lot of questions, even my HR round in Samsung lasted for a long time. During these HR rounds they generally ask you questions by giving you different situations and scenarios then how can we expect ourselves to answer such questions when we ourselves have not gone through such scenarios and this is where the experience we gain, the teamwork and leadership quality we gain helps us while handling different situations in these societies. Next, our confidence matters too, I have given several interviews, and I have taken a lot of interviews of my juniors so this helped to figure out what an interviewer actually seeks in a candidate.
