Here are the questions we asked Vartika Singh to know about her interview experience.
Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.
Answer: I am Vartika Singh, currently in my final year of BTech in electronics and computer engineering. My cgpa is 8.25 and I have recently been offered a position of a full-stack developer at Optum (full-time). I was a part of society Orion and IETE.
Question 2: Describe Your written test experience specifying the number of rounds, details of each round, and type of test platform (online – amcat, hackerearth, etc / offline)
Answer: There were two rounds in total, one technical and one HR round. Students were shortlisted on the basis of cgpa. It was on Mettel. There were MCQ’s based on core computer subjects.
Question 3: Describe your all technical interviews specifying the number of rounds and details of each round (if any) (please share coding questions if possible)
Answer: Technically, it was around 30 minutes but mine went on till 90 minutes. It was on Mettel. It started from a discussion on my project(based on web-dev). You should be very well versed with the projects on your resume. They will surely grill you on that. I got questions on the front-end side (HTML, js). There were questions on core computer subjects like OS, OOPS, DBMS. They were not very tough (my suggestion would be before the interview prepare from interview bit). Your explaining skills should be good. Then there were two coding questions (live coding). The first one was a basic string question. That was easy, I was able to do it. Second
was based on a greedy approach, I was not able to solve the full question but he wanted the approach and I explained it to the interviewer and he was quite happy with it.
Question 4: Describe your all HR interviews specifying the number of rounds and details of each round
Answer: It was a 10-15 minutes telephonic interview. They basically ask about what you did in college. The first question was obviously an introduction. They ask about what all work you did in societies, your strength and weakness, job location preferences, discussion about your projects. As I was not from a computer branch, I was asked about the reason why I chose a tech-based job.
Question 5: What were the key factors for your selection?
Answer: Whatever you write in your resume please make sure you know about it very well. If you are unable to solve any questions you should be able to explain your approach. Basically, good communication skills are important.
Question 6: What are the things students should focus on in order of priority?
Answer: Please make sure you maintain your cgpa from the first year. DSA is very important. It’s your choice you take a paid course or learn from youtube or online resources. CP is not an issue but you should know dsa. You can choose anything ML, web dev, AI but whatever you do you should know it thoroughly and you should have a good project on that.
Question 7: According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?
Answer: Extracurricular activities play a significant role. Maybe they don’t improve your tech part but definitely, it helps you enhance your personality. These help improving soft skills which are very important. when you work with a team you learn teamwork, communication skills. Your overall personality is developed which is extremely important in corporate sectors. So I will say don’t miss out on any opportunity.
Question 8: Any Other Advice you would like to give to your juniors?
Answer: You should also practice aptitude as only tech is not enough. Your online tests will not be clear without aptitude. Make sure that you understand each coding ques you do. It should not be like cramming questions as that will not help you. Placements are not very tough. You can do that easily and the branch doesn’t matter. Maintain your cgpa. Keep doing constant efforts.
Question 9: According to you what should be the minimum cgpa students should maintain?
Answer: It is something branch-specific. If you are from computer branch, I would recommend that you people should always try to keep your cgpa around 9 as there are a lot of students in that cgpa bracket (9-9.5) so it will be better if you maintain a high cgpa because there are some companies like Apple, Samsung who consider only the cgpa cutoff. They will not even take your test. If you are from a non-computer branch even then you should try to maintain a high cgpa. But above 8 anything will do.
Question 10: There are so many online sites available to practice dsa. Which should we choose according to you?
Answer: Practice on Multiple sites is not at all required. You can pick any one site. In today’s time, the best site is leetcode you do that.
You can also take any paid course or youtube is also a good option. YouTube channels like Striver and love babbar has dsa sheets. They are quite good. I myself solved love babbars sheet. You should basically know how to handle a problem. In the case of an online sites, leetcode is very good.
