Question 1: Introduce yourself to our readers.
Answer: My name is Yashul Tyagi, I am a final year student at Thapar University pursuing B.E. in Computer Engineering. I have been recently placed at STMicroelectronics.
Question 2: Was there any internal CGPA cutoff? If yes, then how much?
Answer: No internal cgpa cut off
Question 3: What was the procedure of the placement that took place? (Shortlisting criteria/ coding or aptitude test/ number of interviews)
Answer: The selection process included resume short listing and an interview.
Question 4: Tell us about the written/online test. (Aptitude, Coding, Test Platform, etc)
Answer: There was no written test but a resume shortlisting was done.
Question 5: Tell us about Interview Round 1 including the questions that were asked.
Answer: It was an online interview which started with introduction part and followed on to the technical aspects, I was asked DSA questions and how they can applied to different scenarios. The coding question was based on checking if two strings were an anagram of each other and more. There were also a few questions from DBMS, specifically queries. It was followed by discussion on my project, which included a chrome extension and android application. Overall the interview covered all questions related to my tech stack.
Resources to study from- DSA can be mastered with consistent practise; I personally solved striver sheet as it is well structured and included all sorts of questions. Other than this, web development is a good skill and can be mastered by working on small projects.
Question 6: What were the key factors of your selection?
Answer: Confidence in your skills is the key to impress the panel. A good resume and being aware of what you’re speaking is very crucial. And for last basic knowledge of your subjects is a must. Along with this I had some mock interviews with my friends, which definitely helped me.
Question 8: According to you, what role do extracurricular activities as well as participation in societies play?
Answer: Extracurricular activities help in socialising and developing good communication skills. I used to participate in different hackathons as they help us to learn from our peers, develop skills and develop ideation strategies. These activities are helpful in personality development.
Question 9: Were there any companies you got rejected from after appearing for their interview? If yes, then tell us about your rejection story and what do you think were the reasons for your rejection?
Answer: I faced quite a few rejections, but they mostly taught me about areas where I was lacking; with each interview, I learned and gained confidence to work harder. Remaining calm and waiting for the right opportunity is very important.
Question 10: Any other advice you would like to give to your juniors?
Answer: The whole placement process is aimed at testing your confidence and how one faces different scenarios. Always try and improve your technical skills and create good and impressive project. Apart from this calmness and patience are your best friends while working on cracking the process.
